NCC Confirms Launch of 5G Services by MAFAB Communications

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has confirmed that MAFAB Communications, one of the companies granted a 5G license in December 2021, has already launched commercial services. This comes amidst false claims on social media suggesting otherwise.

MAFAB Communications commenced its services in Abuja on January 24, 2023, and in Lagos on January 26, 2023. The company’s rollout plans include targeting six cities, namely Port Harcourt, Enugu, Kano, and Kaduna, in addition to the initial locations.

The NCC, through its Director of Public Affairs, Reuben Muoka, has addressed the misinformation circulating on social media. He clarified that MAFAB Communications was indeed one of the two companies that won a 5G license during the transparent 5G Auction conducted by the Commission on December 13, 2021.

After fulfilling the requirements and making the fee payment of 3.6 million in February 2022, MAFAB Communications received its official license on February 22, 2022.

According to the rollout conditions, MAFAB Communications publicly launched its services as scheduled in Abuja and Lagos. The NCC has been closely monitoring the infrastructure deployment and service offerings in line with the company’s operating license.

The false and misleading information regarding the delay in MAFAB’s 5G rollout should be disregarded by the public and all stakeholders. The Commission assures that MAFAB Communications has successfully launched its commercial services and continues to progress in the rollout of their 5G network.
