Israeli Tanks Conduct Targeted Raid in Northern Gaza, Ground Incursion Looms

Israel conducted a targeted raid in northern Gaza using tanks before withdrawing, according to the Israeli military. The raid, captured in a video released by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), involved tanks and armored vehicles firing artillery. The IDF spokesperson described the raid as a large but limited operation aimed at creating better conditions for potential ground operations. The raid successfully neutralized terrorists planning attacks with anti-tank guided missiles.

Satellite images obtained during this period showed significant destruction in northern Gaza, with entire neighborhoods flattened. Israel’s air assault, targeting Hamas “terror infrastructure,” has devastated the densely-populated enclave, which was already described as an “open-air prison” by rights groups prior to the conflict.

Meanwhile, the humanitarian crisis in Gaza has reached a critical point, with daily airstrikes, dwindling fuel supplies, and crippled health services. There is mounting pressure on the international community to secure permission from Israel for much-needed aid to enter Gaza. Several countries are advocating for a humanitarian pause in the fighting.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned that a ground incursion into Gaza is imminent. He stated that Israel has already eliminated thousands of terrorists but vowed to continue its operation. Netanyahu also acknowledged the need to address intelligence failures that allowed the worst terror attack in Israeli history. Israel is determined to wipe out Hamas, the militant group that controls Gaza, in response to its recent deadly attacks.

The IDF issued warnings to civilians in the northern portion of Gaza, urging them to leave as the bombardment intensified. However, the airstrikes have continued in both the north and south of the enclave, making it impossible to find a safe area.

According to information from Hamas-controlled health authorities, the strikes have claimed the lives of over 6,400 people and injured 17,000 others. Journalist casualties have also been recorded, with at least 24 journalists killed since the start of the conflict.

Gaza hospitals are overwhelmed with injured patients, lacking supplies and electricity to provide proper care. Videos and images captured by journalists depict the aftermath of airstrikes, including the sight of bodies in a morgue and severely injured individuals, particularly children, in crowded hospitals.

The UN has warned about the dire conditions faced by displaced families taking refuge in UN shelters. Overcrowding has severely limited access to basic assistance and essential services. The UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) in Gaza has stated that aid operations will cease within a day if fuel is not delivered, leaving civilians without a lifeline.

After nearly three weeks of fighting, the UN Security Council remains divided on how to address the crisis, as two different resolutions proposed failed to pass.
