Israel Concerned About Hamas Misusing Starlink Connection

Israel is apprehensive about the possibility of the Hamas terrorist group exploiting the Starlink connection for their own purposes. After causing a storm in Israel with his statements about connecting the Gaza Strip to Starlink, Elon Musk held a conversation on Sunday with the head of Shin Bet, Israel’s internal security agency.

During the conversation, initiated by Musk, he reassured the Israeli intelligence leader that his “humanitarian” objective was to provide internet access to humanitarian organizations and UN representatives in Gaza. The internet infrastructure in Gaza has been severed by the Israeli government in the context of the ongoing conflict.

Musk also stated that he intends to undergo “all security checks” with both the American and Israeli governments before activating even a single Starlink terminal. The Shin Bet made it clear that Israel would not allow any exploitation of this communication line by terrorist elements in Gaza.

These clarifications from the businessman come after a strong reaction from the Israeli Minister of Communications, Shlomo Karai, who threatened Elon Musk with retaliation if he proceeded with his project to connect the Gaza Strip to Starlink.

Israel’s concern stems from the fear that Hamas may divert the Starlink connection to serve their own interests. The Israeli government is determined to prevent any potential misuse of this satellite internet network.
