Communications and Digital Ministry to Install Starlink Satellite Devices in Sabah

The Communications and Digital Ministry has announced plans to install Starlink satellite devices in Sabah, Malaysia. Minister Fahmi Fadzil stated that the second phase of installations will begin in January 2023 at nine different locations. The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission will be responsible for carrying out the installations, with Inanam being one of the selected locations.

Under Phase One, two units of Starlink are currently being installed in Pensiangan and Ranau. Fahmi Fadzil visited Ranau to witness the ongoing installation process. Starlink received a license from the government in July to operate as an internet service provider, aimed at improving internet connectivity in the country.

Fahmi Fadzil also mentioned that the communication sector’s inflation rate remains at -3.7%, which is a positive indicator. This is attributed to service providers reducing prices, resulting in more affordable options for consumers.

In addition to discussing the Starlink installations, Fahmi Fadzil highlighted the importance of the “Kita MADANI” program. The program aims to provide accurate and authentic information to the community by establishing MADANI communities in each parliamentary constituency. These communities assist in delivering government policies and information to the grassroots level.

Overall, the upcoming installation of Starlink satellite devices in Sabah will help improve internet capacity in the region. The initiative is part of the government’s efforts to enhance connectivity and provide reliable internet access to the people of Malaysia.
