WhatsApp Introduces Feature for Higher Quality Images

WhatsApp is rolling out a new feature that allows users to send images in higher resolutions. Although the images will still be compressed, they will appear sharper, eliminating the need to squint while viewing them. This update comes after Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s announcement, where he mentioned this improvement amidst discussions about a potential fight with Elon Musk.

Somalia Bans TikTok and Telegram

The Somali government has decided to shut down access to certain social media platforms, including TikTok and Telegram. Authorities believe these platforms have a detrimental impact on young people, particularly due to the spread of extremist content, nude images, and other offensive materials that do not align with Somali culture and Islam.

The Ministry of Communications and Technology has also banned the gambling platform 1XBET. This marks Somalia’s first attempt to shut down a platform on social media. The ban officially starts on Thursday, August 24.

The concern about the impact of TikTok on cultural and religious values is becoming a trend across the African continent. In Kenya, a citizen named “Bob Ndolo” recently petitioned lawmakers to investigate the social media platform, stating that it poses a threat to the cultural and religious values of the country. Ndolo expressed concerns about potential negative effects on academic performance and mental health among the youth if TikTok is not banned in Kenya.
