Video of Green Lights in Hawaii Predates Wildfires

A video showing streaks of green light in the sky over Hawaii circulated on social media during the August 2023 wildfires. However, the footage was actually filmed in January 2023, several months before the wildfires occurred.

The lights in the video were captured by Japan’s Subaru-Asahi Star Camera and originated from a Chinese weather satellite launched in April 2022. There is no connection between the green lights and the wildfires.

Social media posts claiming that the green lights were evidence of “Directed Energy Weapons” (DEWs) being used to start the fires are baseless. DEWs are a technology that uses high-energy lasers and microwaves, but there is no evidence to support the theory that they were used in these wildfires.

The cause of the August 2023 wildfires in Maui, which resulted in over 100 fatalities, is still under investigation. The video of the green lights predates the disaster by seven months, making it unrelated to the wildfires.

The video shows streaks of light in the night sky over the Mauna Kea volcano in Hawaii. It was captured by the Subaru-Asahi Star Camera, which is operated by the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan (NAOJ) in collaboration with the Asahi Shimbun newspaper publisher.

The green lights in the video are actually laser lights from the Chinese environment monitoring satellite called Dqui-1, which was launched in 2022, according to the NAOJ.

Claims of DEWs being used in the wildfires are unfounded and have been a prevalent theme online. It is important to rely on reliable sources and factual information when discussing these events.
