Users Call on Elon Musk to Bring High-Speed Internet to Gaza

Users on Elon Musk’s social media platform, X (formerly known as Twitter), are urging the billionaire to establish high-speed internet in Gaza through his Starlink satellites. This comes as Israel has imposed a “total siege” on the enclave, resulting in severe shortages of fuel, water, food, and electricity.

Gaza’s only power plant recently ran out of fuel, causing a third of hospitals to close. The United Nations has called for an immediate truce and access to aid in Gaza, a resolution supported by the UN General Assembly. However, Israel and the United States voted against the proposal, while the United Kingdom abstained.

The World Health Organization has also expressed the need for assistance, as it faces difficulties distributing fuel and medical supplies due to a lack of security guarantees. Users are now looking to Elon Musk, who previously offered Starlink internet to Ukraine after Russia’s invasion, to provide the same support to Gaza.

Musk has responded to these calls, affirming that Gaza needs the necessary hardware to access Starlink. He also stated that SpaceX would support communication links with internationally recognized aid organizations, but no terminals from Gaza have attempted to communicate with their constellation.

In addition to the internet issue, Musk’s X platform has also been involved in the Israel-Hamas conflict, with the EU warning him about the spread of “illegal content and information” on his platform.

The plea for high-speed internet in Gaza is seen as crucial in enabling communication, access to information, and aid distribution. Users hope that Musk’s involvement can help alleviate the suffering and support Gazan voices to be heard worldwide.
