The government arm of global satellite operator SES secures 8.1m contract

SES Space & Defense, the government arm of global satellite operator SES, has been awarded a potential five-year, 8.1 million blanket purchase agreement (BPA) by the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA). The BPA is to provide low-latency, high-throughput satellite communications services for U.S. government users.

Under the agreement, SES Space & Defense will deliver high-throughput, low-latency connectivity through its O3b satellite constellation, which is in medium-Earth orbit. The services provided will include broadband internet, video, and voice services to U.S. government gateways.

The single-award BPA has a one-year base period, which is set to start on September 1, 2020, and is followed by four option years, running through the end of August 2024. Through the BPA, government users will have the option to lease bandwidth and managed services on low-latency HTS (High-Throughput Satellite), teleport services, and terrestrial connectivity.

SES Space & Defense, formerly known as SES Government Solutions, rebranded after its acquisition of DRS Global Enterprise Solutions from Leonardo DRS in December.

This contract underscores SES Space & Defense’s role in providing vital satellite communication services to the U.S. government. With its O3b satellite constellation, SES Space & Defense is able to offer reliable and efficient connectivity solutions for government users, ensuring low latency and high throughput for critical communications needs.
