Tata Play Collaborates with NSIL for Launch of GSAT-24 Satellite

DTH service provider Tata Play has partnered with New Space India Limited (NSIL) to launch the GSAT-24 satellite in June 2022. The company has now announced that it has started utilizing the GSAT-24 satellite, which is currently in its orbital position.

The GSAT-24 satellite, a 4-tonne-class, 24-Ku band communication satellite leased by Tata Play from the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), will provide enhanced picture and sound quality to Tata Play customers. It will also offer a wider coverage across India, including the North-East and Andaman & Nicobar Islands. With the GSAT-24 satellite, Tata Play will be able to broadcast up to 900 channels, making it the largest satellite bandwidth provider among all DTH platforms in the country.

The inauguration ceremony for the GSAT-24 satellite took place at the Tata Play Broadcast Centre in New Delhi. The event was attended by key figures such as Tata Play MD & CEO, Shri Harit Nagpal, Information & Broadcasting Secretary, Shri Apurva Chandra, ISRO Chairman, Shri S. Somanath, and NSIL Chairman and Managing Director, Shri Radhakrishnan Durairaj.

Tata Play’s CEO, Shri Harit Nagpal, stated that this collaboration with NSIL will enhance the viewing experience for DTH subscribers by providing better video and audio quality along with more channels and services. He also emphasized Tata Play’s commitment to Linear TV and their participation in the ‘Make in India’ initiative.

Chairman of ISRO, S. Somanath, expressed his satisfaction with the successful deployment of the GSAT-24 satellite, highlighting its crucial role in revolutionizing India’s telecommunications space. He commended the indigenous technology and the country’s entry into the Demand Driven Mission segment.

NSIL Chairman and Managing Director, Radhakrishnan Durairaj, praised the GSAT-24 satellite as a testament to the success of the ‘Make in India’ initiative. He noted that the satellite would support domestic broadcasting services with advanced digital TV transmission capabilities.

With the utilization of the GSAT-24 satellite, Tata Play aims to provide a superior TV viewing experience to its customers and contribute to the growth of the DTH industry in India.
