Roku Expands Channel Lineup with Over 40 New Additions

Cutting the cord can be a difficult transition, especially for those who rely heavily on local programming included in their cable subscriptions. In an effort to address this issue, Roku is introducing more than 40 new channels to its free Roku Channel, which is accessible on Roku devices.

Among the new additions are local news channels from major cities like New York, Los Angeles, Miami, and Chicago. This will give users the ability to stay informed about their local news even after canceling their cable subscriptions. Some Fox and CBS affiliates will also offer 24/7 streaming from major news markets. These channels can be accessed through Roku TVs, Roku streaming devices (such as the Roku Streaming Stick or Roku Express), and the Roku website.

Additionally, in an attempt to compete with rival services and streaming devices like the Amazon Fire TV Stick, Roku is introducing a dedicated channel for MrBeast, a popular YouTube personality. The Roku Channel will also feature new shows from NBCUniversal, as well as Spanish-language, sports, and family programming.

Roku aims to establish The Roku Channel as a leading player in the free ad-supported television (FAST) market. By expanding its channel lineup, Roku hopes to compete with other services like Amazon Freevee, Pluto TV, and Tubi. This move provides more options for cord-cutters who are looking for a free and ad-supported streaming experience.

With these new additions, Roku continues to enhance its platform and cater to the changing preferences of consumers who are increasingly moving away from traditional cable subscriptions in favor of streaming services.
