Ripley State Hospital to Open on 30 August

Ripley State Hospital will be opening its doors to patients on Wednesday 30 August. The hospital, located 12 kilometers south of Ipswich Hospital, will provide an alternative to the emergency department for minor injuries and illnesses.

The facility, which held a community open day last Sunday, will feature a minor illness and injury clinic, as well as treatment spaces for pediatric care, obstetrics and gynecology, oral health, BreastScreen, and mental health services. Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk stated that the hospital will be a gamechanger for the growing Ipswich region, providing the necessary health services for families in the area. This will help the frontline workers to focus on major emergencies, as more than 580,000 people presented to Queensland emergency departments in the last quarter.

The hospital’s Minor Injury and Illness Clinic, open from 8.00 am to 10.00 pm, 365 days a year, will provide walk-in urgent care without the need for an appointment. This will alleviate pressure from Ipswich Hospital and its busy emergency department. In addition, work has already begun on the construction of the 90-bed Ripley sub-acute facility located next to the satellite hospital.

The hospital’s Aboriginal name, Moodoombar Dabbil, meaning “place of good water,” has also been announced. The clinic will offer treatment for common injuries and illnesses such as fractures, burns, infections, eye issues, cuts, and fevers.

This is the second of seven satellite hospitals to open under the Palaszczuk Government’s commitment to providing public healthcare in rapidly growing communities across South East Queensland. Construction on the 0 million Ipswich Hospital Stage 2 expansion, which will add 200 new beds to the region, will begin next year.
