Reliance Jio Launches Jio SpaceFiber to Expand Broadband Connectivity in India

During the opening of the India Mobile Congress 2023 in New Delhi, Reliance Jio unveiled Jio SpaceFiber, India’s first satellite-based GigaFiber service. The objective of Jio SpaceFiber is to deliver high-speed broadband connectivity to underserved regions throughout India at competitive rates.

Currently, Jio SpaceFiber is operational in four remote areas of Gujarat, Chattisgarh, Odissa, and Assam. This new service is an addition to Jio’s existing premier broadband services, JioFiber and JioAirFiber. Jio already provides high-speed broadband to over 450 million consumers in India.

Chairman of Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited, Akash Ambani, stated that Jio has enabled millions of Indian households and businesses to experience broadband internet for the first time. He emphasized that Jio SpaceFiber will expand coverage to reach those who are not yet connected, allowing individuals and communities to fully engage in the digital age.

Jio aims to ensure reliable, high-speed internet and entertainment services for consumers and businesses, regardless of their location. The satellite network will also enhance mobile backhaul capacity, particularly in remote areas, to expand the reach of Jio True5G.

To implement this technology, Jio has partnered with SES, utilizing advanced medium earth orbit (MEO) satellite technology, including the O3b and O3b mPOWER satellites. This collaboration makes Jio the sole provider of this groundbreaking technology in India, offering scalable and cost-effective broadband access, reliability, and service flexibility.

The launch of Jio SpaceFiber signifies Jio’s commitment to digital inclusion and bridging the connectivity gap in India. With its extensive network coverage and state-of-the-art satellite technology, Jio is paving the way for universal access to high-speed broadband services across the country.
