Quanta Cloud Technology Signs MOU with Singapore University of Technology and Design for O-RAN Ecosystem Building

Quanta Cloud Technology (QCT), a global data center and telecom solution provider, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) to collaborate on the democratization of networking and the building of the Open Radio Access Network (O-RAN) ecosystem.

The MOU aims to establish a joint lab where QCT and SUTD will work with Open Testing and Integration Centres (OTICs) in Singapore and Southeast Asia to organize the first O-RAN Plugfest in the region. This initiative also includes supporting O-RAN related research.

As part of the collaboration, QCT and SUTD have developed 5G use cases and technologies in their joint lab. These will contribute to the local 5G and future communication ecosystem in Singapore. The joint lab will also serve as an assessment hub for the industry, providing objective assessments of the performance of devices and systems in new use cases.

Mike Yang, President of QCT, expressed optimism about the potential for 5G and AI development in Singapore, and highlighted the collaboration with SUTD as an opportunity to solve real-life problems with smart applications running on reliable and cost-effective 5G open networks.

In addition to the MOU, QCT and SUTD signed a research collaboration agreement (RCA) to further solidify their collaboration in the academic space. The RCA includes leveraging QCT’s 5G proof-of-concept experiences for use case enhancement, as well as offering scholarships and in-kind contributions for joint research on private 5G and AI.
