Orbex has announced the appointment of Lesley Still, a former British Airways executive, as its new Chief of Spaceport Operations. In her role, Still will be responsible for the operational management of Sutherland, the United Kingdom’s upcoming vertical rocket launch site.

One of her key tasks will be overseeing the readiness of Sutherland, also known as Space Hub Sutherland, for the inaugural launch of the Orbex Prime rocket. This includes managing the Spaceport Licence application and engaging with various stakeholders involved. Once the construction of the spaceport is completed, Still will continue to oversee its operations and collaborate closely with the local community and stakeholders to ensure its significance and positive impact in the area.

The Orbex Prime rocket, with a length of 19 meters, is specifically designed to launch small satellites into polar and sun-synchronous orbits. It made history in May 2022 as the first full orbital micro-launcher rocket to be unveiled in Europe. Orbex has already secured multiple commercial launch contracts with satellite manufacturers, further establishing its position in the industry.
