The new Redlands Satellite Hospital, costing .8 million, is set to open its doors on August 28, 2023. The facility, which is part of the Queensland Government’s Satellite Hospital Program, aims to provide high-quality healthcare services closer to home for the residents of Redlands Coast and the Bay Islands.

The Redlands Satellite Hospital will feature a Minor Injury and Illness Clinic, as well as kidney dialysis chairs, chemotherapy chairs, medical imaging, and diagnostic services. It will also offer a range of specialist and outpatient services, including a Cancer Day Therapy Unit and a Kidney Dialysis Unit.

The opening of the facility will help alleviate the pressure on nearby emergency departments, including Redland Hospital, by providing urgent care options. The Minor Illness and Injury Clinic will be open from 8am to 10pm daily and will be equipped to treat simple fractures, sprains, strains, head injuries without loss of consciousness, and other urgent conditions. The clinic will also have on-site medical imaging capabilities.

Over 100 healthcare workers, including doctors, nurses, administration officers, allied health practitioners, and operational staff, have been recruited to staff the new Satellite Hospital.

The Redlands Satellite Hospital is one of seven such facilities being delivered across the South-East as part of the Satellite Hospital Program. Other satellite hospitals, such as those in Bribie Island, Eight Mile Plains, Kallangur, Ripley, and Tugun, are expected to open later in 2023 and in 2024.

In recognition of the region’s First Nations peoples and their history, culture, and identity, the Palaszczuk Government has co-named the Redlands Satellite Hospital “Talwalpin Milbul.”

The opening of the Redlands Satellite Hospital is a significant development for the community, providing vital healthcare services closer to home. The new facility will greatly benefit residents in need of kidney dialysis and cancer day therapy services.
