Mayo Clinic Explores Hybrid LTE and Satcom Telehealth Solution for Ambulances

The Mayo Clinic is currently exploring the use of a hybrid LTE and satcom telehealth technology in ambulances. Telehealth network integrator Optac-X recently announced that it has signed a “know-how agreement” with the Mayo Clinic to utilize this telehealth solution, which is equipped with a Kymeta antenna.

Optac-X has partnered with Kymeta, an LTE and satcom provider, and their u8 terminal offers both mobile satellite and cellular communications. This technology allows physicians to remotely connect with patients even before they arrive at the hospital. In areas where cellular networks are not accessible, satellite connectivity ensures uninterrupted communication, especially in remote locations.

As part of the agreement, Optac-X has licensed its LTE-global satcom architecture and hands-free headsets to the Mayo Clinic. The package also includes Vantiq software, which provides emergency services with real-time updates and alerts on a patient’s condition, enabling continuous remote patient monitoring.

Dr. Patrick Fullerton, the founder and CEO of Optac-X, expressed his excitement about the opportunity to deliver emergency medical services in a pre-hospital setting using Optac-X’s telehealth technology. The company’s field tests with U.S. Army Special Operations Command medics deployed worldwide have demonstrated the effectiveness of the technology in saving lives.

The Mayo Clinic’s decision to explore this hybrid LTE and satcom telehealth solution showcases their commitment to leveraging innovative technologies to improve healthcare delivery. By utilizing Optac-X’s technology, the Mayo Clinic aims to enhance patient care and provide critical medical support, particularly in emergency situations.

Overall, this collaboration between Optac-X and the Mayo Clinic represents a significant advancement in telehealth solutions, with the potential to revolutionize emergency medical services and improve outcomes for patients in need of immediate care.
