EM Solutions Completes System Level Test for Telesat’s LEO 3 Satelite Transponder

EM Solutions has successfully completed the first system level test for a transponder developed for Telesat’s LEO 3 demonstration satellite. Launched on July 18th, the satellite payload features a flexible bent pipe architecture with both Ka and V-band uplinks and downlinking on either Ka or Q-band. The payload was designed and manufactured at EM Solutions’ Brisbane, Australia head office, which now includes a new ISO7 clean room and other facilities.

The communications payload was tailored for operation on Space Flight Laboratory’s DEFIANT platform, a compact microsatellite measuring just 30x30x45 cm and weighing only 30 kg. EM Solutions used its experience with space flight hardware to design and manufacture the payload.

EM Solutions has a primary focus on SATCOM terminals operating at X and Ka bands, and the company has demonstrated its ability to leverage microwave experience to create custom products for various applications over the years.

Garth Niethe, Chief Engineer at EM Solutions, has praised the collaboration effort between EM Solutions, SFL, Telesat, and other parties involved in the project. He particularly thanked the National Space Test Facility at the Australian National University for their support in conducting environmental testing.

Moving forward, EM Solutions plans to build on their successful research and development efforts in Q and V bands for their satellite transponder payload. They intend to apply their expertise in microwave product design and manufacturing to venture into other applications.
