Belfast-based Fibrus Expands Electric Vehicle Fleet and Broadband Network

Belfast-based broadband operator Fibrus has announced that 44 out of its fleet of over 110 vehicles are now powered by electricity, a significant increase from 14 in December 2022. Fibrus is currently constructing a Fibre-to-the-Premises network capable of delivering speeds of up to 10Gbps across parts of Northern Ireland and England.

As of May 2023, Fibrus has already covered a total of 256,000 premises, with 240,000 premises ready for service. The company boasts 36,000 customers and has set an ambitious target of reaching 1 million premises over the next three years, with approximately 450,000 premises in Northern Ireland and the rest in England and Scotland. By March 2024, Fibrus aims to provide coverage to 400,000 UK premises.

Fibrus has secured approximately £700m in capital, including investments of £200m, £220m from a banking consortium, and public subsidies such as £197m for Project Stratum and an £108m Project Gigabit contract.

The company has also committed to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2040 as part of its sustainability efforts. One aspect of this includes transitioning to a 100% electric vehicle fleet by 2025. Fibrus has already surpassed its target of converting 30% of its fleet to electric vehicles in 2023.

All Fibrus electric vehicle drivers have access to home charging facilities, and the fleet is further supported by rapid car chargers at the Dargan site. These chargers have been enhanced with the addition of a rapid 50KW charging unit, installed by Belfast EV charging point operator Weev.

Fibrus customers can enjoy competitive pricing, with plans starting from £24.99 per month for a 146Mbps package on a discounted rate. The top-tier 946Mbps package is priced at £44.99 per month, also on a discounted rate, with varying discounts available based on location.

Fibrus’ expansion of its electric vehicle fleet and broadband network reflects its commitment to delivering high-speed connectivity and contributing to a sustainable future.
