All Parts of India Will be Connected through OneWeb Satellite Communication Service

During the inaugural session of the India Mobile Congress 2023, Bharti Airtel Chairman Sunil Bharti Mittal announced that the OneWeb satellite communication service is set to connect all parts of India starting next month.

Bharti Airtel has already achieved success in launching 5G services last year, with coverage extended to 5,000 towns, cities, and 20,000 villages across the country. Through the Universal Services Obligation Fund, Airtel has been working on connecting rural and remote areas. Now, with the introduction of satellite technology, connectivity gaps across the nation will be bridged.

According to Mittal, the OneWeb constellation is prepared to serve the entire globe as well as the country. Starting next month, anyone in India, regardless of their location, whether in remote or challenging areas, will be able to establish connectivity.

This technology is made possible by OneWeb’s constellation of over 618 low earth orbit satellites. Bharti Enterprises holds the largest stake in the merged entity, with a 21.2 percent share.

The implementation of the OneWeb satellite communication service is a significant step in providing broadband internet services from space. It will play a pivotal role in extending internet access to underserved and remote regions.

The use of satellite-based solutions is crucial in providing connectivity to areas that were previously unconnected, bringing them into the digital age. This development will contribute to the growth of digital connectivity in India and help bridge the digital divide.
