Adtran Invests in US Production to Meet Demand for Telecommunications Equipment

Adtran, a leading global provider of networking and communications solutions, has announced a strategic investment of up to million to expand its state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Huntsville, Alabama. The expansion aims to increase production capacity for advanced telecommunications equipment in response to the growing demand for domestically produced network electronics.

The investment is part of Adtran’s commitment to support the Biden-Harris Administration’s Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment Program, which aims to connect millions of Americans to high-speed internet networks. With this expansion, up to 300 new jobs will be created, adding to Adtran’s existing American workforce of over 1,400 employees.

The company plans to increase the production of optical line termination (OLT) equipment and bring the manufacturing of optical network terminals (ONTs) back to the United States. This move aligns with Adtran’s goal to strengthen the domestic supply chain and secure communications networks with American-made equipment.

Adtran is dedicated to investing in the success of its employees by offering on-the-job training and industry-leading benefits, including a college tuition reimbursement program. The company is also partnering with local schools to provide apprenticeship programs and co-op opportunities for high school and college students.

The diversity of Adtran’s workforce reflects the diversity of Alabama, with over 40% of the manufacturing team consisting of people of color and one-third identifying as African American. Additionally, 57% of manufacturing employees are women, surpassing the industry average.

The expansion of Adtran’s manufacturing facility demonstrates the company’s commitment to the “Made in America” initiative. The move to increase domestic production not only supports job creation but also strengthens the nation’s economy. Adtran’s investment in US manufacturing aligns with the government’s goal of building high-speed internet networks using American workers and equipment.

This announcement has garnered praise from government officials, including US Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo, who commended Adtran’s efforts to expand manufacturing across the country and connect Americans to high-speed internet. Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Communications and Information, Alan Davidson, emphasized the importance of American-made network equipment and praised Adtran’s response to the call for domestic production.

The expansion of Adtran’s manufacturing capabilities is a significant milestone in the company’s mission to provide affordable and accessible telecommunications solutions to millions of Americans. Adtran’s investment in US production supports the national goal of bridging the digital divide and ensuring that everyone has access to high-speed internet for education, healthcare, and employment opportunities.
