Tata Play Launches GSAT-24 Satellite to Enhance Television Viewing Experience

Tata Play, in collaboration with NSIL, launched the GSAT-24 satellite in June 2022. This initiative aligns with the Government’s Make in India vision. Starting today, Tata Play will utilize this satellite to provide its users with enhanced picture and sound quality. Additionally, with increased bandwidth, Tata Play will be able to offer 50% more channels, making it the largest satellite bandwidth provider among all DTH platforms.

The inauguration ceremony took place at Tata Play’s Broadcast Centre in New Delhi. Shri. Apurva Chandra, Secretary Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, expressed his satisfaction and highlighted the significance of this achievement for Aatmanirbhar Bharat and self-reliance in the field of space and communication.

During the event, Shri. S. Somanath, Chairman ISRO, announced that GSAT-24, a 4-tonne class communication satellite, is fully operational at maximum capacity after rigorous in-orbit testing. This milestone signifies a breakthrough in India’s telecommunications industry, driven by advanced indigenous technology. It also demonstrates the success of India’s aerospace capabilities and marks the country’s entry into the Demand Driven Mission segment.

Shri. Radhakrishnan Durairaj, Chairman and Managing Director NSIL, emphasized that GSAT-24 marks a new era of satellite television for India. As the first Demand Driven communication satellite mission by NSIL, GSAT-24 supports domestic broadcasting services with superior digital TV transmission capabilities. This achievement is a testament to the success of the Make in India initiative. The collaboration between NSIL, ISRO, and Tata Play proved instrumental in the project’s success.

Harit Nagpal, MD & CEO of Tata Play, commented on the occasion, stating that enhancing the viewing experience has always been a priority for Tata Play. Through this collaboration with NSIL, DTH subscribers can expect improved video and audio quality, along with a wider range of channels and services. This development further strengthens Tata Play’s commitment to Make in India, with all services delivered through indigenously produced satellites by DOS.

GSAT-24 is a 24-Ku band communication satellite specifically launched to meet the DTH application needs of Tata Play. NSIL, a Central Public Sector Enterprise, serves as the commercial arm of DOS. The entire satellite capacity on-board GSAT-24 is leased to Tata Play, their committed customer.
