Series 3 Platform Brings New Performance Capabilities, Efficiencies, and Diversified Supply Chain

Silicon Labs CEO Matt Johnson announced the release of the Series 3 platform, designed to meet the demands of a more connected world and provide development flexibility. The platform is built to cater to the needs of developers and device manufacturers for the next decade.

The Series 3 platform builds upon the success of the Series 1 and Series 2 platforms, which have helped scale the Internet of Things (IoT) and connect a wide range of devices. Series 3 devices will address the challenges posed by the accelerating IoT landscape, including demands for increased processing power in various key areas such as smart cities, commercial buildings, retail, factories, and healthcare.

Some notable features of the Series 3 platform include enhanced security with Silicon Labs’ Secure Vault technology, improved power efficiency, and a 100X increase in processing capability. The platform will integrate AI/ML accelerators for edge devices, allowing for system processing consolidation. Additionally, Series 3 will be the only multi-radio IoT platform supporting over 30 products across different wireless protocols, enabling developers to use one common set of tools for application development.

To address supply chain issues, Series 3 will be manufactured in multiple fabs across various geographies, reducing geographic risk and potential disruptions for customers. Silicon Labs also announced Simplicity Studio 6, the latest version of its application development and productivity tools, which will support the entire Silicon Labs device portfolio.

In line with the goal of providing developers with more options and flexibility, Silicon Labs has developed an extension for Microsoft Visual Studio Code, enabling developers to use their preferred IDE. The company also introduced expanded Developer Journeys for Amazon Sidewalk and Matter, providing tools, documentation, hardware, and expert support for development in these technologies.

These announcements were made during Silicon Labs’ Works With Developer’s Conference, covering various IoT topics such as Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, security, and AI/ML. The conference was held virtually on August 22nd and 23rd.
