President William Ruto Inviting Investors to Expand High-Speed Internet Access Countrywide

President William Ruto has announced that his administration is inviting investors and partners to expand high-speed internet access countrywide. He stated that the government considers the Digital Super Highway a crucial driver for the transformation, job creation, and growth of the country.

Ruto emphasized that, in addition to fiber connectivity, the government will also consider new emerging connectivity solutions such as satellite. He made these remarks during a discussion with Karibu Connect, a global partner of Space X, at the Eldoret State Lodge. The discussion also included Elcome International CEO Jimmy Grewal and Kavit Handa, Chairman of Africa Capital.

The President highlighted that the expansion of high-speed internet access will ensure that remote parts of the country can benefit economically from the digital space in a cost-effective manner. To encourage more investment in the ICT sector, the government has removed the 30% local shareholding restriction, enabling more technology companies to invest in Kenya.

By expanding high-speed internet access nationwide, the government aims to bridge the digital divide and enable greater access to information, innovation, online services, and opportunities. This commitment to digital infrastructure aligns with the global trend towards digital transformation and connectivity as key drivers of economic growth.

With increased internet access, the country can expect positive impacts on various sectors, including education, healthcare, agriculture, e-commerce, and entrepreneurship. It will also enhance communication and collaboration, both domestically and globally, leading to improved efficiency and competitiveness.

President Ruto’s invitation to investors and partners reflects the government’s commitment to leveraging technology as a catalyst for development. The collaboration between the government and private sector entities will play a crucial role in realizing the vision of a digitally empowered and prosperous Kenya.
