Housing Authority Secures Free Internet Access for Residents through CCNI

The Selma Housing Authority is partnering with Black Belt Technologies, Craig Field Industries, and the Blackbelt Community Foundation to create the Community Connection Network Infrastructure (CCNI). This initiative aims to provide free internet access and various services to the residents of public housing.

Through CCNI, residents will have access to streaming services, educational platforms for all age groups, workforce development and training platforms, entertainment options, and expanded telecommunication capabilities. This move is seen as a way to empower communities and enhance connectivity, information sharing, and entertainment opportunities.

Mayor James Perkins, Jr. of Selma expressed his satisfaction with this partnership, emphasizing the opportunities it will bring to eligible residents throughout the Selma Downtown Business District. He praised the collaboration between various organizations in providing high-quality broadband access that supports personal and professional growth.

Toni Green, the vice president of finance and human resources at Black Belt Technologies, stated that Selma was chosen as the location for this initiative due to long-lasting relationships and the need for improved internet connectivity. The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the importance of internet access for personal and economic development, making this initiative even more critical for the community.

Wayne Green, CEO of Black Belt Technologies, designed the CCNI model. This project has been in the works for years and aims to address connectivity and communication deficiencies in underserved areas. The goal is to provide affordable, high-quality broadband access to residents, starting with the housing authority and expanding to other rural communities in Alabama.

The Selma Housing Authority CEO, Kennard Randolph, expressed gratitude towards Felecia Lucky from the Black Belt Community Foundation for her contribution to this project.

Overall, this partnership and the implementation of CCNI are expected to bring significant benefits to the residents of Selma’s public housing, providing them with free internet access and a range of useful services that promote connectivity, learning, and personal development.
