Frontier Communications is contemplating relocating its headquarters from Norwalk, Connecticut to either Texas or Florida. The telecommunications company is seeking tax incentives from Texas to transform its existing Dallas office into a corporate hub. Tampa, Florida is also being considered as an alternative location.

Texas and Florida have become attractive destinations for businesses due to their lack of income taxes and business-friendly policies. Several major companies, such as Tesla, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, and Caterpillar, have already moved to Texas, while Citadel Securities founder Ken Griffin relocated his firm to Miami in 2020.

In the coming week, Dallas council members will deliberate on whether to designate Frontier as an Enterprise Zone project. This designation would entitle the company to a refund of the state’s portion of sales and use taxes paid as part of its capital investment.

If Frontier selects Dallas as its headquarters, it has committed to hiring or relocating additional staff within a five-year timeframe and expanding and renovating its current office.

Emerging from bankruptcy in 2021, Frontier is now focused on constructing fiber optic networks to serve customers in 25 states. Some of the company’s top executives already reside in Dallas, including Chief Executive Nick Jeffery.

Response from Frontier was unavailable at the time of reporting. Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont’s spokesman stated that the administration maintains regular contact with Frontier but has not been informed of any plans or intentions to relocate the company’s office from Norwalk.

Frontier currently employs over 14,000 individuals across the United States, with 220 employees in Norwalk and over 600 in Dallas, a hub for telecom-related firms.
