Blocks of Flats in the South East of England to Benefit from New Fibre Broadband Solution

Blocks of flats across the South East of England, particularly those owned by UK housing group Orbit, are set to receive a new plug-and-play solution for full fibre broadband deployment. Broadband ISP Lightning Fibre and fibre installations specialist Complete Fibre are partnering to deliver this solution.

Lightning Fibre is currently in the process of deploying a high-speed Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network in parts of Sussex and Kent. The company has already covered around 60,000 premises and aims to reach 140,000 in total. However, there haven’t been any recent progress updates.

Under the new deal, Complete Fibre will be responsible for managing access to the buildings and installing a single open-access digital infrastructure in Orbit’s blocks of flats (also known as Multi Dwelling Units or MDUs). This infrastructure allows broadband providers to connect and offer full-fibre services to residents.

Lightning Fibre is the first ISP to connect to Complete Fibre’s infrastructure in Orbit buildings. This partnership will provide residents with safe and ultra-fast fibre broadband, enhancing digital inclusivity in the region. Multiple ISPs can also connect to Complete Fibre’s plug-and-play solution, giving Orbit residents more options.

Orbit, a housing group, supports its customers by providing quality, safe, and affordable homes. By partnering with Complete Fibre to offer reliable and high-speed digital connectivity, Orbit aims to support its customers’ work, education, and access to community and online services.

Lightning Fibre is committed to driving digital inclusion and bringing hyper-fast broadband to communities in the South East. By utilizing Complete Fibre’s infrastructure, Lightning Fibre can offer Orbit and its residents a choice of broadband providers. Lightning Fibre intends to maintain fair pricing and excellent customer care while contributing to its commitment to achieve net zero carbon emissions.

The exact number of premises benefiting from this rollout is undisclosed. However, Orbit owns over 46,500 homes in the Midlands, East, and South of England.

Lightning Fibre’s customers typically pay £24 per month for a 150Mbps speed package on a 24-month term. They also offer a Social Tariff of £15 per month, providing a 50Mbps service to those on state benefits on a 30-day rolling contract.
