SpaceX to Launch 23 Starlink Satellites Tonight

A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket is scheduled to launch 23 Starlink internet satellites tonight as part of the company’s second mission of the day. The launch will take place from Florida’s Cape Canaveral Space Force Station at 7:45 p.m. EDT. In case of any delays, there are seven backup opportunities available between 8:17 p.m. and 10:47 p.m. EDT.

Viewers can watch the live coverage of the launch through SpaceX’s account on X (formerly known as Twitter). The coverage will begin approximately five minutes before liftoff. If everything goes as planned, the Falcon 9’s first stage will return to Earth and land vertically on the drone ship called “A Shortfall of Gravitas.” This will mark the eighth launch and landing for this particular rocket’s first stage.

The 23 Starlink satellites will be deployed into low Earth orbit approximately 65.5 minutes after liftoff, assuming the mission proceeds smoothly. This launch is the second part of a doubleheader for SpaceX’s Starlink constellation. The company had already scheduled the launch of 22 Starlink craft earlier from California’s Vandenberg Space Force Base on Sunday morning.

Starlink is SpaceX’s global broadband network that provides internet services to customers worldwide. With over 5,000 satellites already launched, SpaceX plans to deploy a total of 12,000 satellites in low Earth orbit. The company has also applied for approval to launch an additional 30,000 satellites in the future.
