SpaceX Falcon 9 Rocket Launch Targeted for Tonight

A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket launch is scheduled for tonight from Launch Complex 40 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station. The launch window is now set for 8:17 p.m. EDT, after a delay from the original target time of 7:45 p.m. In case of further delays, there are five backup launch opportunities available until 10:47 p.m. EDT on Sunday.

The mission, called Starlink 6-25, was initially scheduled for Saturday night but faced a delay. The Falcon 9 rocket will be carrying 23 Starlink internet satellites in its payload fairing. These satellites will contribute to SpaceX’s mission of providing global broadband coverage.

Notably, no local sonic booms are expected. After liftoff, the first stage booster of the rocket will aim to land on a drone ship at sea around 8½ minutes after launch.

The Space Force’s 45th Weather Squadron has given favorable odds of 85% for launch weather. However, the presence of Tropical Cyclone Tammy has created windy conditions and steep seas in the booster recovery zone, which are expected to diminish in the coming week. The primary weather concerns for the launch are onshore moving cumulus clouds and potential liftoff winds.

The next scheduled launch from Florida’s Space Coast is NASA’s SpaceX CRS-29 mission, targeted for November 5 at 10:01 p.m. EDT. This cargo resupply mission will deliver new science investigations, food, supplies, and equipment to the International Space Station.

SpaceX’s contribution to space exploration continues to expand with each new launch. Stay tuned for updates on this page as the launch window opens and SpaceX’s live webcast becomes available.
