Rohde & Schwarz and MediaTek have announced a collaboration to verify the 5G RedCap test platform. MediaTek has successfully tested, measured, and verified its final products using the R&S CMX500 signaling tester. The 5G RedCap test platform introduces enhanced machine-type communication (eMTC) to the 5G ecosystem, bridging the gap between low-speed narrowband IoT standards and 5G.

This optimized design for mid-tier use cases, such as sensors in industrial automation, smart cameras, and wearables, allows for less complexity, less spectrum bandwidth usage, lower power consumption, and standalone mode operation.

Rohde & Schwarz is a market leader in eMTC and NB-IoT testing and has optimized the R&S CMX500 OBT specifically for IoT testing. The enhancements of the R&S CMX500 OBT allow MediaTek to verify RedCap aspects defined in 3GPP 5G Rel.17, including network access restrictions, bandwidth parts, power-saving, and RedCap-specific protocol signaling procedures.

The R&S CMX500 wireless communication tester provides a one-box tester configuration for 5G NR testing. It supports all relevant 5G frequencies up to 8 GHz and offers an intuitive web-based user interface. The testing solution is suitable for all 5G mobile devices and chipsets, supporting various network deployments and frequency ranges.
