Reliance Jio Unveils JioSpaceFiber: India’s First Satellite-Based Giga Fiber Service

Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited, the world’s largest private mobile data network, has introduced JioSpaceFiber, India’s first satellite-based giga fiber service. The aim is to provide high-speed broadband connectivity to previously inaccessible areas of the country.

JioSpaceFiber was unveiled at the India Mobile Congress on October 27, with plans to make it widely available throughout the country at affordable rates. The chairman of Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited, Akash Ambani, stated that the goal is to ensure that everyone, regardless of their location, can fully participate in the digital society with gigabit access to online government, education, health, and entertainment services.

Currently, Jio already offers high-speed broadband services to over 450 million consumers in India, encompassing both fixed-line and wireless options. By introducing JioSpaceFiber to their existing suite of broadband services, such as JioFiber and JioAirFiber, the company aims to expedite digital inclusivity for every household across the country.

What sets JioSpaceFiber apart is its utilization of satellite technology, which enhances the reach and scalability of Jio True5G, especially in remote areas. The partnership with SES enables Jio to access medium earth orbit (MEO) satellite technology, providing truly unique gigabit, fiber-like services from space. Through this partnership, Jio has access to SES’s O3b and new O3b mPOWER satellites, allowing them to offer scalable and affordable broadband across India.

To demonstrate the capabilities of JioSpaceFiber, the service has already been connected to four remote locations in India, highlighting its potential to bring high-speed broadband to underserved areas. Jio’s initiative aligns with the Indian government’s Digital India campaign, and with the deployment of fiber-like services from space, they aim to promote digital transformation, even in rural parts of the country.

It’s important to note that Moneycontrol is a part of the Network18 group, which is controlled by Independent Media Trust, with Reliance Industries being the sole beneficiary.
