Malaysia Airlines, the national air carrier of Malaysia, has chosen Viasat’s in-flight connectivity (IFC) solution for its upcoming Boeing 737-8 fleet. The partnership was announced recently, with the first factory installation expected to be completed later this month.

The new fleet will predominantly fly across Malaysia and Southeast Asia. To provide connectivity, Malaysia Airlines will utilize Viasat’s Ka-band satellite network in the region. This includes access to the third ViaSat-3 satellite, which will cover the Asia-Pacific region once it is launched.

In addition to implementing Viasat’s IFC solution, Malaysia Airlines already operates its own wireless in-flight entertainment system, called MHstudio. This move is part of the airline’s ongoing commitment to enhance customer experience, offering personalized services and exceptional onboard experiences with Malaysian hospitality.

The CEO of Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG), Ahmad Luqman Mohd Azmi, expressed the airline’s dedication to continuous improvement and innovation. He stated that by introducing the new in-flight entertainment system, passengers will have the flexibility to enjoy on-demand entertainment throughout their journey.

Viasat’s selection by Malaysia Airlines adds to their portfolio of successful IFC partnerships. They currently power Delta’s free on-board Wi-Fi and have secured deals with other major airlines including Virgin Atlantic, Southwest Airlines, Breeze Airways, and KLM Royal Dutch Airlines.

Overall, the collaboration between Malaysia Airlines and Viasat will enhance the connectivity and in-flight entertainment experience for Malaysia Airlines passengers on their new Boeing 737-8 fleet.
