LAGOS STATE UNIVERSITY COMMENDED FOR HOSTING VIEWING CENTRE OF CHANDRAYAAN THREE LANDING

Lagos State University (LASU) has been commended for being selected as one of the viewing centres for the live stream of the landing of India’s satellite, Chandrayaan three, on the moon. The commendation was given by Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, the Vice-Chancellor of LASU, who was represented by Mrs Adenike Boyo, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), during the live viewing event organized by the High Commission of India in Lagos.

Chandrayaan three successfully landed on the South Pole of the moon, making it a significant achievement. LASU was designated as one of the centres where the landing was viewed live by school pupils. According to Olatunji-Bello, the university is pleased to be associated with this initiative as it aligns with their focus on leveraging science and technology. She also expressed the institution’s willingness to collaborate on mutually beneficial programs and initiatives to improve the lives of Lagosians.

Mahesh Narasimhan, Consulate General of India in Lagos, highlighted that this was India’s third successful mission to the moon. He mentioned that landing on the South Pole is a remarkable accomplishment because no other country had achieved that before. LASU was chosen as a viewing centre due to its reputation as one of Nigeria’s leading universities, especially in Lagos State.

Ramesh Biswal, Coordinator of the Sanyukta Bharitiya Association in Lagos, emphasized that Chandrayaan three’s landing is not only a significant achievement for India but also for other countries globally. The mission will allow exploration of the moon and provide valuable insights into its features.

Overall, the event marked an important milestone in space exploration, and LASU’s involvement showcased the university’s commitment to promoting science and technology.
