Kenyan Government Prioritizes Digital Super Highway for Transformation and Growth

The Kenyan Government has identified the Digital Super Highway as a crucial catalyst for the country’s development, job creation, and economic growth. President William Ruto has announced that the government is actively seeking partners and investors to expand high-speed internet access throughout the nation. The objective is to ensure that even remote areas can benefit from the economic advantages offered by the digital space in a cost-effective manner.

President Ruto has emphasized that, in addition to fiber connectivity, alternative solutions such as satellite connectivity will be considered to achieve this goal. The President conveyed these intentions during discussions with @Karibu_Connect, a global partner of @elonmusk’s @SpaceX, at the Eldoret State Lodge in Uasin Gishu County. The meeting was attended by Jimmy Grewal, CEO of Elcome International, and Kavit Handa, Chairman of Africa Capital.

To attract more investment and promote growth in the ICT sector, the Kenyan Government has removed the 30 percent local shareholding restriction. This move will encourage more technology companies to invest in Kenya, thereby creating additional opportunities for innovation and economic advancement.

By prioritizing the expansion of the Digital Super Highway, the Kenyan Government aims to bridge the digital divide and unlock the potential of all parts of the country. This commitment is in line with the government’s broader vision to harness the power of technology for national development. With improved internet access, Kenyan citizens and businesses will have greater access to information, markets, and employment opportunities. This initiative is part of the government’s overall strategy to transform Kenya into a digital economy, foster innovation, and spur sustainable growth.
