Huntsville Manufacturing Company to Add 300 New Jobs to Increase Broadband Access

A Huntsville manufacturing company, Adtran, is set to add up to 300 new jobs as part of an expansion project aimed at increasing broadband access. The expansion is being made possible through the .45 billion Broadband Equity, Access and Deployment (BEAD) Program, which was included in the federal infrastructure law passed two years ago. Adtran’s investment in the project amounts to million.

The company’s advanced telecommunications equipment manufacturing at Cummings Research Park in Huntsville is being expanded to meet the growing demand for broadband access. Adtran will be increasing its production of optical line termination (OLT) equipment and will also be onshoring the manufacturing of optical network terminals (ONTs).

The expansion is expected to create high-quality, well-paying jobs. Adtran, as a leading telecommunications equipment provider in the US, aims to collaborate with state broadband offices and network operators throughout the country to expand secure and high-speed internet access to millions of Americans.

Mitch Landrieu, senior adviser to the President and White House Infrastructure Coordinator, and Alan Davidson, assistant secretary of Commerce for Communications and Information and NTIA Administrator, recently toured Adtran’s 270,000-square-foot manufacturing facility.

Adtran’s CEO, Tom Stanton, expressed enthusiasm about the expansion, emphasizing the company’s commitment to strengthening the domestic supply chain and securing communications networks with American-made equipment.

Access to high-speed internet is no longer considered a luxury, but an essential tool for accessing education, healthcare, and job opportunities. The investment in high-speed internet as part of President Biden’s Investing in America agenda is the largest in the country’s history, aiming to connect all Americans to affordable and reliable high-speed internet using materials made in America.

Congressman Dale Strong, whose district includes Adtran, commended the investment, recognizing the importance of expanding broadband access to support the economy and the United States as a whole. The manufacturing boom in Huntsville, Alabama, fueled by Adtran’s expansion, is expected to create more good-paying jobs and boost the local economy.
