Elon Musk Provides Free Internet to Gaza with Starlink Satellites

Elon Musk has announced that his Starlink satellites will be activated to provide internet connectivity to recognized international aid organizations in Gaza. This comes after landline, mobile, and internet services were severed in the region, leaving communication with the 2 million people living there impossible.

The Palestine Telecommunication Company reported that the infrastructure in Gaza was severely damaged due to intense Israeli bombardment, effectively cutting off the region from the rest of the world. As a result, the Palestinian Red Crescent expressed deep concern about the inability to provide ambulance services without proper communication networks.

The recent conflict between Israel and Hamas led to the launch of Hamas’ military wing, the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades, attacking Israel with thousands of rockets. In response, the Israeli army launched an aerial attack on Gaza. The Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza reported that 7,028 people were killed, including 2,913 children, 1,709 women, and 397 elderly individuals, with 18,484 people injured.

The clashes extended beyond Gaza, with 106 Palestinians killed in attacks by Israeli forces and Jewish settlers in the occupied West Bank. Additionally, 25 journalists were killed in Israel’s attacks on Gaza, while 46 Hezbollah members and 4 civilians, including a journalist, were killed in clashes between the Israeli army and Hezbollah on the Israel-Lebanon border.

Given the dire situation, Elon Musk’s decision to provide free internet connectivity through Starlink satellites to recognized aid organizations in Gaza is significant. It aims to assist these organizations in carrying out their critical work and facilitating communication in a region where communication infrastructure has been severely damaged.
