Egypt Considers Licensing Mobile Operators for eSIM Service

The Egyptian National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority is currently considering granting licenses to mobile operators to offer the eSIM service in the foreseeable future. This move comes after all telecom companies have completed the necessary preparations and operational tests to ensure the seamless provision of the service in the local market.

In the near future, the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority will release the specifics of the regulatory requirements and technical guidelines for the launch of the eSIM service in Egypt. This initiative aims to provide the latest advanced technical solutions to enhance the mobile user experience in the country.

The eSIM service eliminates the need for physical chips in mobile devices, allowing customers to retain their mobile lines without the hassle of inserting a traditional SIM card. This not only reduces costs for customers but also enables the use of multiple lines on a single mobile device. Users can store multiple profiles, each with two or more numbers, and easily switch between them.

As of April 2023, the number of mobile subscribers in Egypt stood at 102.9 million. This marks a 6.78% increase in comparison to the same month last year, when there were 96.27 million subscribers. Additionally, there was a monthly growth rate of 0.13% in March 2023, with 102.77 million subscribers.

The adoption of the eSIM service by mobile operators in Egypt is expected to bring more convenience to customers and enhance the overall mobile telecommunications landscape in the country.
