Discord.io, a third-party service for finding and sharing servers on the popular communication app Discord, has announced its closure following a major data breach. The breach occurred on Monday night and resulted in the leakage of data from the Discord.io database to unknown actors. The company decided to shut down all services and operations after confirming the breach.

Discord.io suspects that the breach was caused by a vulnerability in its website’s code, which allowed the attacker to gain access to the database. The entire database was then downloaded by the attacker and put up for sale on a third-party site. TechRadar reported that the hacker stole the data of 760,000 users and posted a sample on Breached Forums.

The leaked information includes non-sensitive details such as internal user IDs, avatar information, statuses, coin balances, and streaks in the free minigame. Additionally, API keys, registration states, and the last payment date and expiration date of premium memberships were also compromised. Potentially sensitive information, including usernames, Discord IDs, email addresses, billing addresses, and salted and hashed passwords, was impacted as well.

Discord.io assures users that no payment information is stored on their platform, as all payments are processed using PayPal and Stripe. The website will remain down until further notice as the company continues to investigate the breach. They have stated their commitment to rewriting the website’s code and overhauling their security practices to prevent future breaches.

Users who signed up on Discord.io before 2018 using previous username and password registration are advised to change their passwords on any other site where they may have used the same password. However, there is no need to change passwords or take any other actions on the Discord platform itself.

All active subscriptions on Discord.io have been canceled, and subscribers who purchased a premium membership within the last 30 days will receive a full refund.
