Comcast has announced that it will be investing over million in digital equity grants to support 16 organizations in Greater Boston. These grants will be used to provide residents in Boston and surrounding communities with Internet access and digital skill-building services. The recipient organizations, including the YMCA of Greater Boston and Urban League of Eastern Massachusetts, were chosen for their commitment to digital equity.

As part of this investment, Comcast surprised Ethos, one of the grant recipients, with 120 new laptops. These laptops will be used to support Ethos’ Digital Aging Program, which provides Boston’s senior citizens with Internet access and computer skills training. By teaching seniors how to use a laptop and navigate the Internet, Ethos is helping them connect with healthcare resources and other important information.

In addition to providing funding for digital access, the grant recipients will also support their members with digital skills and workforce development opportunities. They will also educate residents about the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP), a federal program that provides eligible low-income households with a credit towards their Internet and mobile services.

Comcast’s investment in digital equity is part of Project UP, a billion commitment to advance digital equity and create opportunities for the next generation. Through initiatives like Internet Essentials, Lift Zones, and Digital Navigators, Comcast aims to connect people to the Internet and empower them with digital skills.
