Apparel brands Adidas Originals and BAPE have come together to release a special limited-edition sneaker collaboration. The collaboration features the Triple-White Forum 84 BAPE Low sneaker, which will be auctioned off alongside a digital twin non-fungible token (NFT) version of the kicks that can potentially be worn in the metaverse.

The auction will be facilitated through the Adidas Collect platform, with the support of the Adidas /// Studio. This marks the first time that Adidas will use an auction format for an NFT-driven release. Just 100 Ethereum NFTs will be made available, and each NFT can be exchanged for a corresponding pair of sneakers.

The sneakers themselves showcase BAPE’s signature design elements, with a shooting star motif on the lateral upper and the “A Bathing Ape” logo embossed in metallic silver foil. Unlike previous BAPE designs, these sneakers feature a clean white colorway. The concept behind this colorway revolves around a pristine laundrette located in a mysterious desert.

Each pair of sneakers comes equipped with an NFC chip embedded in the left tongue. When scanned with a smartphone, this chip provides access to the NFT-based certificate of authenticity. In addition to the physical sneakers, owners will also receive a digital twin NFT that can be used in Adidas’ ALTS avatar project, allowing owners to wear their virtual kicks in the metaverse.

The auction for the Adidas Originals x BAPE “Fresh Forum” access pass NFT will begin on August 22 and run for 72 hours. Bidding will start at 0.3 ETH (approximately 0). There is no maximum bid limit, and the auction is open to holders of Adidas ALT[er] Ego “Soles” NFTs and members of the BAPE: (B)APETAVERSE community.

The 100 winners of the auction will be able to redeem their NFTs for the physical sneakers and digital twins starting on September 26. Shipping of the sneakers is set to begin in October.

This collaboration between Adidas and BAPE is part of a series of releases to commemorate BAPE’s 30th anniversary. Earlier releases included co-branded versions of the Forum Low sneakers with a camo motif.
