SpaceX Falcon 9 carries more Starlink satellites to orbit

Late Wednesday, a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket launched from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, carrying more Starlink internet satellites to orbit. The rocket took off at 11:36 p.m. EDT and followed a southeasterly trajectory over the Atlantic Ocean.

This mission, known as Starlink 6-10, marked the 42nd launch of the year from the Space Coast. It deployed 22 additional Starlink satellites, adding to SpaceX’s constellation which aims to provide global internet coverage.

SpaceX has been sending satellites to orbit since 2019 and has already placed over 5,000 of these flat-packed satellites in space. The Starlink internet service is available for various applications, including in-flight services on airplanes and connecting remote areas worldwide.

After launching the satellites, the Falcon 9 rocket’s first stage successfully landed on the Shortfall of Gravitas drone ship in the ocean. This was the 13th flight for the reusable first stage.

The next Falcon 9 launch from Florida is scheduled to carry NASA’s SpaceX Crew-7 mission to the International Space Station. The launch is targeted for Friday, August 25, at 3:49 a.m. EDT. The mission will involve NASA astronaut Jasmin Moghbeli, European Space Agency astronaut Andreas Mogensen, Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency astronaut Satoshi Furukawa, and Russian cosmonaut Konstantin Borisov.

No specific launch dates have been announced for the next Starlink mission, but SpaceX may schedule it before the Crew-7 mission.

SpaceX continues to make significant progress in its efforts to provide global internet coverage and contribute to space exploration.
