Scotland Police Provide Advice to Reduce Vehicle Thefts

Scotland Police have issued advice to the public in an effort to reduce vehicle thefts. With several reports of vehicle thefts in Scotland before the summer months, officers urge individuals to take precautionary measures to safeguard their belongings.

One of the key recommendations is to remove GPS systems, screens, and other valuables from vehicles when not in use. These items should be stored securely to minimize the risk of theft. Additionally, it is advised to park tractors and other agricultural vehicles in secure, alarmed buildings located in well-lit areas covered by CCTV surveillance.

To further enhance security, individuals are encouraged to activate PIN security on GPS systems, using their own unique number if available. In the absence of PIN security, marking one’s postcode on the system can act as a deterrent and aid in tracing stolen property back to its rightful owner.

Farmers and vehicle owners are advised to keep tractors and combines with GPS systems stored out of sight whenever possible. It is also recommended to record serial numbers and photograph GPS systems to aid in identification if theft occurs. When purchasing second-hand GPS systems, it is important to verify the serial numbers to ensure they are not stolen goods.

If any suspicious activity is observed, individuals are urged to report it to the local authorities by dialing 101. Taking these precautions can help prevent vehicle thefts and protect valuable assets.
