Rural Areas in Malaysia Gain Internet Access with Starlink

The rural areas in Malaysia have long suffered from limited or no access to wifi, resulting in slow internet speeds. However, there is hope on the horizon with the introduction of Starlink in Malaysia.

Recently, a teacher in Sarawak took it upon himself to provide internet access to his students by purchasing a Starlink device. He shared his experience on TikTok, explaining that he bought the device with his own money, without any help or funding from external parties.

In a video clip, the teacher can be seen carrying the black Starlink box up a flight of stairs, presumably to his classroom. Despite purchasing the device himself, he expressed gratitude that Starlink is allowed in Malaysia, as it offers internet access to those in hard-to-reach areas.

During a speed test, the Starlink device recorded impressive results, with 151 Mbps download speed, 19 Mbps upload speed, and a latency of 76 ms. Netizens recognized the importance of internet access for work and studies and praised the teacher for his initiative in bringing internet access to his students. They expressed hope that it would be fully utilized.

In a meeting with Elon Musk, the founder of SpaceX and Tesla, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that the government has purchased 40 Starlink devices for use in universities, colleges, and schools nationwide.

The availability of Starlink in Malaysia is a significant step forward in bridging the digital divide in rural areas where internet access has been limited. It promises to provide faster and more reliable internet connectivity, benefiting communities, students, and businesses alike.

With the growth and expansion of Starlink services, more individuals and regions across Malaysia will have the opportunity to experience improved internet access, empowering them in various aspects of their lives.
