Reliance Jio Launches JioSpaceFiber, India’s First Satellite-Based Gigabit Broadband Service

Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited, a prominent telecommunications company in India, has unveiled JioSpaceFiber, the country’s first satellite-based gigabit broadband service. The launch took place at the India Mobile Congress, showcasing Reliance Jio’s commitment to providing high-speed broadband services to previously inaccessible areas.

JioSpaceFiber will soon be available nationwide at competitive prices, aiming to make digital inclusivity a reality for all households. This new satellite-based service adds to Reliance Jio’s existing offerings of JioFiber and JioAirFiber, ensuring that consumers and businesses can access reliable, low-latency, high-speed internet and entertainment, regardless of their location.

In addition to connecting remote regions with high-speed internet, the satellite network will also enhance Jio’s True5G mobile backhaul capacity, expanding its reach and scalability even in areas with limited connectivity.

Reliance Jio has partnered with SES to leverage the latest in medium earth orbit (MEO) satellite technology for JioSpaceFiber. By utilizing SES’s O3b and new O3b mPOWER satellites, Jio aims to revolutionize the broadband industry by providing scalable and cost-effective internet access across India, ensuring reliability and flexibility.

To demonstrate the capabilities of JioSpaceFiber, the service has already been connected to four remote locations in Gir, Gujarat; Korba, Chhattisgarh; Nabarangpur, Odisha; and ONGC-Jorhat, Assam.

Akash Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited, emphasized the impact of this launch, stating that Jio has enabled millions of homes and businesses in India to experience broadband internet for the first time. With JioSpaceFiber, they aim to expand their reach and connect even more people to the digital society.

John-Paul Hemingway, Chief Strategy Officer at SES Networks, expressed excitement about the partnership and their contribution to the Indian government’s Digital India initiative. The unique solution provided by JioSpaceFiber aims to deliver multiple gigabits per second of throughput to any location in India, including the most rural areas.

Reliance Jio’s JioSpaceFiber represents a notable milestone in India’s digital transformation, promising to bring high-speed broadband access to remote parts of the country, aligning with the vision of a truly Digital India.
