New Sun Observation Satellite and Polarimetric Mission in the Works for ISRO

As India anxiously awaits the Moon landing of Chandrayaan-3 on Wednesday, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has turned its attention to a new mission focused on the study of the Sun. ISRO has plans to launch a satellite designed to observe climate patterns, as well as an Indo-US synthetic aperture radar.

In addition to these projects, ISRO is also preparing for the country’s first-ever polarimetric mission, which will study bright astronomical X-ray sources. ISRO Chairman S Somnath shared updates on the progress of the climate observation satellite INSAT-3DS, indicating that preparations are underway for its launch.

In order to thoroughly test the ejection system, a test vehicle mission known as Gaganyan will be launched. Earlier this month, ISRO successfully conducted a propulsion system test for Gaganyaan, the country’s first manned space flight mission. This test was carried out at the Propulsion Complex in Mahendragiri, Tamil Nadu.

The Gaganyaan mission aims to send three crew members into a 400 km orbit for a duration of three days, after which they will safely return to Earth. The propulsion system test will help enhance the performance of the system, ensuring the readiness of the Gaganyaan mission.

ISRO’s focus is currently on the ongoing Chandrayaan-3 mission, which was launched on July 14 from Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh. Once completed successfully, India will become the fourth country to land a spacecraft on the Moon’s surface. ISRO’s previous lunar mission, Chandrayaan-2, unfortunately failed due to the Vikram Lander crash.

Given the importance of the Gaganyaan project, ISRO has decided to proceed cautiously and focus on its success in the first attempt. No other missions are currently being rushed into, showcasing ISRO’s dedication to careful planning and execution.
