New Streaming Platforms Launched Worldwide in July 2023

Data science company BB Media recently identified four new streaming platforms, all outside of North America. In Spain, the SVOD service Movistar Plus+ relaunched, while several other platforms updated their services. In the United States, Paramount+ and Showtime merged.

Three new services were launched in Latin America. SimpleTV introduced SimplePlus, a transactional on-demand platform, inclusive with any basic SimpleTV plan in Venezuela. Thundernet, an internet provider in the same country, debuted Thundernet TV Go, an OTT subscription-based television service with access to over 100 linear pay TV channels. Mercado Libre, an e-commerce giant, entered the streaming industry with Mercado Play, a free, ad-supported platform available in several Latin American countries.

In Europe, LigaT, a Portuguese Internet Service Provider (ISP), introduced its new TV service in Portugal. This commitment-free service offers three different packages and HD channels. Subscribers can access it on up to five devices simultaneously, putting LigaT in direct competition with local players like RTP Play, TVI Player, and SIC’s Opto.

On the other hand, two services in Brazil ceased operations. Guigo TV officially closed on July 1, making way for the introduction of the Zapping brand in Brazil. Giga Gloob, a mobile paid streaming service launched in March 2022, also discontinued its operations. Its contents will transition to the company’s primary OTT platform, Globoplay.

These are the notable changes in the streaming landscape for the month of July.
