New Adtran Oscilloquartz Timing Solutions Enhance Security and Reliability

Adtran has launched new synchronization solutions featuring Satellite Time and Location (STL) technology to address the vulnerabilities of GPS and other Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) systems to hacking and spoofing attacks. The OSA 5405-S PTP grandmaster clock now supports STL signals in addition to GNSS-based timing. This compact and versatile device is suitable for indoor and outdoor deployment in various industries, including 5G, data centers, smart grids, and defense.

Another product from the Adtran Oscilloquartz suite is the OSA 5400 STL module, which brings the benefits of a compact STL/GNSS receiver to third-party switches and servers. STL uses low-earth orbit (LEO) satellites as a distinct time source, providing a reliable and secure alternative to GNSS. This dual-source approach aligns with zero-trust principles, ensuring resilience even in the event of GNSS disruption.

The OSA 5405-S seamlessly supports both LEO time services and multi-constellation GNSS, providing accurate and consistent timing in challenging environments, including deep inside buildings. It is managed by Adtran’s Ensemble Controller and has a compact design with a low energy footprint.

The OSA 5400 STL module also incorporates STL receiver technology, enabling third-party equipment vendors to enhance synchronization reliability in challenging conditions.

The integration of STL technology into Adtran’s timing solutions addresses current synchronization challenges and anticipates future industry needs. STL extends positioning, navigation, and timing (PNT) capabilities where GNSS has limitations, especially in indoor environments. In spaces where GNSS is accessible, STL provides an added layer of resiliency and precision in accordance with a zero-trust architecture.

Adtran’s new timing solutions provide a secure and reliable alternative to traditional synchronization sources and help strengthen synchronization network infrastructure.
