Momentus, a prominent in-space transportation provider, has unveiled its latest innovation, the M-1000 satellite bus. This new platform, based on Momentus’ Vigoride orbital transfer vehicle, offers a range of functionalities that cater to the needs of both government and commercial entities.

The M-1000 satellite bus was developed in response to the evolving preferences of government customers and payload sensitivity. It addresses challenges regarding hosted payloads on Vigoride, where payloads remained tethered rather than deployed. By amalgamating critical subsystems from Vigoride and eliminating the water-based propulsion system, the M-1000 bus offers a more versatile solution.

Capable of accommodating payloads ranging from 350 to 800 kilograms, the M-1000 provides 1 kilowatt orbit average power and a peak of 3 kilowatts. It also offers a modular approach, allowing customers to personalize its functionality. The bus can be customized with enhancements such as improved pointing and third-party propulsion systems, providing bespoke spacecraft configurations within a year.

The M-1000 satellite bus is expected to attract interest from both government and commercial sectors. Government clientele may benefit from its modularity for specialized services, while commercial customers are drawn to its swift production schedule. Momentus plans to produce up to 50 M-1000 buses annually at its manufacturing facility, with prospects for a dedicated facility to meet increased demand.

With the introduction of the M-1000, Momentus continues to advance its legacy with Vigoride tugs, including the upcoming Vigoride-7, scheduled for launch in 2024. The M-1000 satellite bus bridges the gap between customer demands and cutting-edge technology, offering a versatile solution in the dynamic space industry.
