How to Obtain Clearer Satellite Transmissions to Smartphones, According to Dr. Sean Bryan

Digital Locations, Inc. has announced that in a recent podcast, CEO Rich Berliner spoke with Dr. Sean Bryan, Associate Research Professor at Arizona State University, about ways to obtain clearer transmissions from satellites to smartphones.

Dr. Bryan discussed the presence of different broadband emissions and how they can be mitigated. He explained that frequencies of 90 and 150 GHz are transmitted well by the atmosphere compared to others. He also mentioned the use of narrow band slices or notch filters to mitigate interference. Dr. Bryan emphasized the importance of coordinating frequency plans for communication receivers.

He further discussed the challenges of terrestrial wireless and satellite transmission, particularly from Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites. Line-of-sight is crucial for terrestrial mobile users, which can be hindered by obstacles such as trees. Digital Locations’ research team is actively working to overcome these challenges.

Dr. Sean Bryan is an Associate Research Professor at Arizona State University. His work focuses on developing systems and algorithms for remote sensing, wireless communications, and astronomy. He is involved in NASA CubeSounder and SPHEREx IR satellite missions. Dr. Bryan holds a PhD in physics from Case Western Reserve University, where he worked on the Spider telescope array.

Digital Locations, Inc. is developing a disruptive technology that will enable high-speed Internet delivery from satellites directly to smartphones worldwide, including in underserved areas. This technology aims to bridge the digital divide and provide universal access to high-speed Internet services for education, healthcare, telework, and entertainment.
