Google Search now alerts users when personal contact information appears in search results

Google has introduced a new feature called “Results About You” that notifies users when their personal contact information appears in a Google Search query. This feature not only allows users to see where their contact information is being displayed on the search engine, but also gives them the option to remove the page from Google’s results.

This feature is particularly helpful for individuals who have been, or are at risk of being doxxed, as it helps them take control of their digital footprint. By pairing this feature with Google’s other privacy settings and upcoming features, users can have more control over their personal information on the internet.

To turn on the Results About You feature, users must have a Google account. They can then go to the Results About You activity page, click “Get Started,” and follow the on-screen prompts. Users can add multiple names, addresses, phone numbers, and emails to be flagged by Google.

Once activated, Google will automatically scan search results for the user’s personal information and alert them if it finds anything. Users can choose to receive the results via email or push notifications to their linked devices.

While Google cannot remove information from non-Google sites, it can assist users in getting their personal contact information removed from Google Search pages. There are two ways to request removal: through the Results About You activity page or via Google’s Help Center removal form.

On the Results About You page, users can select “Results to review,” check the box next to the desired results, and submit a removal request. Google reviews each request according to its policy requirements.

Alternatively, users can fill out Google’s personal content removal form on the Help Center website. They will need to provide information about the type of content, including screenshots, URLs of search result pages, and specific search terms used to generate the result.

By utilizing these features, users can have greater control over their personal information online and reduce the risk of their contact details being publicly accessible.
