Global Empowerment Mission President and founder Michael Capponi emphasizes the urgent need to transition displaced Hawaiians from shelters to stable housing. Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk announced that his companies, SpaceX and Tesla, are contributing to the relief efforts in Hawaii following the devastating wildfires that ravaged Maui and the town of Lahaina.

Musk shared on the social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) that SpaceX and Tesla are doing their best to be of assistance to Hawaii. SpaceX’s Starlink satellites are being deployed to help restore internet connectivity to the affected community. Starlink has already provided over 650 kits to more than 40 organizations on the island, including Red Lightning Disaster Relief, which recently purchased 20 Starlink systems.

Starlink operates by providing internet service through a constellation of satellites in low Earth orbit. The kits include pre-connected equipment that can be installed near ground level to establish a connection and deliver internet service.

The Maui wildfires have been the deadliest in the United States in over a century. At least 106 lives have been lost, with approximately 1,300 people still missing as search efforts continue. The fires also destroyed more than 2,200 structures, including homes, businesses, and critical infrastructure such as electricity, water, and cell service.

Moody’s Analytics estimates that the economic impact of the disaster ranges between .5 billion and billion, encompassing property damage and lost output.

While Tesla has yet to comment on its contributions, several Tesla Owners Clubs have initiated their own relief efforts. These clubs, made up of Tesla enthusiasts, are supporting organizations such as the Maui Food Bank, Red Cross, Salvation Army, and United Way’s Maui Fire Relief Fund. Additionally, the Tesla Owners Silicon Valley Club is collaborating with King’s Cathedral Maui, a Christian church located on the island, for relief initiatives.
